COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Gear Swap

For 2026 we’re moving the gear swap into a community-based bazaar.  Vendors can slang their wares near the Green Shed and take payment at their leisure.  Freshwater Paddler Symposium Merch will be available at this time as well.

Strokes and Maneuvers

Want to maximize your maneuverability in your kayak?  In this session we’ll refine our general boat handling skills to travel smarter not harder whilst having a play on the water.

Rescue Romp

Sea Kayaking is a watersport!!  In this session we’ll immerse ourselves in efficient and effective ways to rescue ourselves, and paddling partners WHEN we end up in the water.

Spirit Pointe Shakedown

In this session we’ll explore the shoreline features and sights on the way to and from Spirit Point.  A stellar place to practice boat handling skills and possible scenarios depending on the group’s goals.

Family Paddling Program

How to help your kids fall in love with paddling and the outdoors.

In this workshop you will learn tips about gear and safety, practice fun skill building games and strategies for paddling with Pre K through HighSchool.

Age appropriate trips and food will also be addressed. Some content will be participant driven.

Rolling

In this session coaches will work with participants to learn to roll their kayak or refine skills with a current roll.  This life-long skill enhances body-boat connection and elevates paddlers’ confidence on the water.  Coaches are versed with traditional rolling with greenland paddles and conventional techniques with modern euro paddles.

Navigation Station

Looking to boost your knowledge with chart work?  We’ll get involved with the basics in on-water navigation and tune into the tips of the trade to ensure you know where you are, where you’re going and how long it should take to get there.

Sea Kayaker First Aid

Medical incidents don’t take vacations.  We’ll explore common paddlesport related injuries, first aid kit recommendations and what YOU can do to keep yourself and others well-cared for on your paddlesport adventures.

Adaptive Paddling Session

Join Conny Simes from Wilderness Inquiry and explore the amazing world of adaptive paddlesports.  Through innovative design, gear and activity adaptations, we can make sure that the outdoor space is accessible to all users regardless of ability.

Little Sand Bay Adventure

This Day Journey will launch from Little Sand Bay and explore open water crossings and potential island hopping have to offer.  Depending on conditions and the group’s goals, the crew will head over to Sand Island to take in the sights and sounds of the sea caves and unique shoreline.  Alternatively, the group may explore York Island and the views of the Archipelago to the east.

Meyers Beach Sea Caves

Join the crew and explore the iconic mainland sea caves at Meyers Beach.  Coaches will use the shoreline dynamics to challenge skills and build in scenarios to align with the group’s goals.  Arguably one of the best playgrounds on the south shore.
