Brian Castillo - Event Organizer

Doug Liphart & Beth Reed - Coaches

Beth and Doug are professional educators who have worked as kayak guides and were ACA and BCU certified. Doug was an instructor for the BCU in North America, England and Wales. Beth brings a deep knowledge of child development from over 30 years as a K-12 teacher. Doug has professional experience as a kayak guide and Director of Educational Programs for Trek and Trail. In addition he was a Youth Development Educator for UW Extension and is an expert on engaging youth in meaningful contexts to build confidence, skills and service. They have shared their love of paddling and the outdoors with their now grown sons and field tested all of these ideas on trips throughout North America.

Jerome Rausch - Coach

I’ve been paddling for nearly 25 years and coaching for most of that including regional symposiums, clubs in the Minneapolis area and many other public and private groups. I greatly appreciate the opportunities to coach and it is very rewarding to be able to pass on skills and knowledge to aspiring paddlers looking to further develop their own paddling experience. In addition to coaching I have extensive touring experience all over Lake Superior as well as some on Lakes Michigan and Huron. There’s nothing like challenging yourself in the water wilderness - Camping on shores with amazing views, route planning and navigating along the way, risk assessing and adjusting accordingly and enjoying the solitude of a solo excursion or the camaraderie of paddling partners on small group trips.
